Dr. Michael Wald, the Blood Detective

Dr. Wald

Joyce Graff, Powerful Patient

Dr. Wald suggests six blood tests that you should ask your doctor to run. These are tests that hold critical clues to your well-being, mood and disease potential. “These tests should be a part of your overall care,” according to Dr. Michael Wald, known as “The Blood Detective.” They are standard tests that can be ordered by any physician.

  • 1. Cardio CRP (c-reactive protein): Can detect hidden inflammation that can cause dozens of diseases especially heart disease, diabetes and various autoimmune diseases.
  • 2. VAP blood lipids (cholesterol, etc.) Test: measure several blood fats that are not performed by regular doctors. Also, this blood fat test is proved to be far more accurate that the regular blood cholesterol tests (superior technology) that reveals other causes of premature death from cardiovascular disease even when Doctor says, “your cholesterol is fine”.
  • 3. Homocysteine: A genetic marker of how well someone metabolizes B12, folic acid and vitamin B6. Homocysteine is a toxic amino acid that circulates in the body and is associated with dementia risk, cancer and heart disease. Levels of vitamins, except for vitamin D are not useful, as they do not tell you whether the body knows how to use these vitamins to their full advantage.
  • 4. Hemoglobin A1c (HgA1c) – is a two month average of blood sugar. Doctors generally just measure glucose (blood sugar) on the day of the testing. This test identifies pre-diabetics and diabetics even when the rest of the blood work appears normal.
  • 5. -Thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies: Regular thyroid tests do not identify autoimmune disease of the thyroid, but this test does. Very common and undiagnosed problem (diagnosis is usually uncovered after years of patient suffering).
  • 6. Vitamin D3: According to studies, high normal levels of vitamin D mean reduced risk of all cause morbidity and mortality particularly from heart disease and diabetes, but also other conditions.

For everyone, it is important to make sure your body has enough of the right ingredients to ensure accurate copying of genes whenever your body makes new cells — which is does constantly. When genes are not copied accurately, and genetic errors are introduced, that’s when bad things can happen.

Dr. Wald writes two regular local newspaper columns called, “Ask the Blood Detective.”

It all started when a grateful patient said to me, “Dr. Wald, you’re like a real life blood detective,” and the name stuck. I now have a software program, an audio series and nutritional products with the Blood Detective name. I love being called a Blood Detective and I’ve taken on the responsibility that it embodies. When it comes to helping people get well, there is no end to the degree of investigation, study and commitment I bring to the table. I treat my patients with the same understanding, love and respect as I treat my immediate family.“
