Today is post number one for the National Health Blog Post Month. I invite you to spend a few moments with me each day in the month of November as we explore a few different concepts that may help us to become a more Powerful Patient. Our topic for today is Why I Write about My Health.
I began writing about my health a number of years ago when I ran across a survivor forum hosted by the Kidney Cancer Association. People were writing in asking questions about treatments, side effects, and other issues common to those who were diagnosed or caregivers of someone with kidney cancer. At that time I had already become a long-term survivor of the disease and had experienced many of the issues that others were facing. While there were several very knowledgeable people that were posting on the site, I felt that perhaps I had something to offer as well. It turned out to be a very good decision; it has not only allowed me to share information gleaned from my experiences, but it has caused me to delve deeper into the information that is available about not only kidney cancer, but other cancers and maladies as well.
Today the medical community has a tremendous amount of new technology, procedures, and methods at its disposal that were nonexistent a decade ago. For that reason each of us are well served to gain is much reliable information about our conditions and the conditions of our friends and loved ones that we provide a measure of care to.
In the coming days we will become better acquainted as we begin to communicate on a variety of subjects. I cannot promise you that I will go along with the suggested topics laid out by someone who was charged with that responsibility to try to herd us along. My mission this month is to challenge each reader to look at their lifestyle, their habits, their attitude, and their approach to handling everyday situations. In doing this perhaps meaningful change can happen that will prove to be beneficial in some way to some of our readers (perhaps even you).
Until tomorrow, warmest wishes,
Mike
