Author Jim Durham in his new book, My Father’s Writings. has compiled years of his letters, articles and heart-felt stories, fictionalized in an intriguing way — through the eyes of his son from the future. The book takes the position that Jim has died in a plane crash, and his son finds and publishes his writings. In effect, Jim is writing his own obituary.

In My Father’s Writings, Jim’s son learns more about his father’s life, emotions, struggles and successes – providing readers with entertainment, hope and inspiration.

“My hope was that by writing the book people would be motivated to enjoy and appreciate life,” says Durham. “I think I needed to write about my writings in the third person to be comfortable with the inevitable, deeply personal revelations that flow from these words.”

My Father’s Writings depicts several difficult components of Jim life, including tragic loss and his raising of a child with special needs. Much of Jim’s life reflection occurred after witnessing the 9/11 attacks in New York City, which startled so many of us into facing our own mortality.
“Have you ever thought about what your message would be to your family if you knew you were going to die?” Jim writes. ”Am I the only one who thinks about these things?”

My Father’s Writings is available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
